Along with the crisp fall air comes an abundance of fresh and delicious apples. Whether you’re looking for a great homemade gift for the holiday season or just happy to try out interesting uses for this amazing fruit, this slow cooker apple butter recipe is sure to impress. It’s easy to follow and needs only a handful of ingredients to ensure a wonderful flavor!

A True Autumn Treat - A Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe The Required Ingredients

For about four cups-worth of servings of apple butter, you will need:

  • Three pounds of your preferred apples
  • A quarter-cup of honey
  • A quarter-cup of brown sugar
  • A teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A quarter of a teaspoon of fragrant ground cloves
  • Two teaspoons of ground cinnamon

Making the Delicious Apple Butter

Start by peeling and roughly chopping the apples. Place them in the slow cooker and mix in the honey, cinnamon, cloves, and brown sugar. Toss so the apples are coated well. Cover the pot and cook on the low setting for 6 hours. Add the vanilla extract and cook uncovered for another 2 hours. Once the apples are cool, pure them with an immersion blender. Pour the apple butter into airtight glass containers and keep them in the refrigerator.

A Few important Notes and Tips

Sweet varieties of apples, such as pink lady, honey crisp, golden delicious, and gala work very well for this recipe. This same base recipe can be used with plums, pears, apricots, peaches, and other fruits in place of apples. If you keep your apple butter in the refrigerator, use it for up to three weeks. It can last up to two months in the freezer. The butter can be used instead of applesauce in different types of pastries. It’s a great addition to waffles and very tasty when spread on toast. Mix some of it into fresh yogurt or sour cream for a healthy and nutritious snack!
