Kevin Costner Breaks Silence on Rumors About ‘Yellowstone’ Drama: ‘I Took a Beating’
Kevin Costner has had enough of being criticized and has decided once and for all to squash the rumors surrounding his role in Yellowstone. He explained how people who know him know the rumors aren’t true, and none of the things he is getting blamed for were done. So what exactly were people saying in the first place?
The Rumors Are Untrue
Lots of people were claiming that Costner was so busy filming his movie Horizon that he couldn’t be bothered to be on the Yellowstone set. There were also claims that problems between the actor and Taylor Sheridan, the show’s co-creator, were the reason that season 5B was delayed.
Costner explained that Yellowstone was his priority, but that as contracts kept changing, things got messier and messier. According to him, all of the days he was away from the set were negotiated in his contract. Things got confusing when his contract went from being for seasons five, six, and seven to season five being split into two parts, 5A and 5B.
Yellowstone Had Priority
While 5A came out in January 2023, 5B still hasn’t aired, and Costner claimed that it’s because the showrunners didn’t have a script ready for 5B when it was time to film, so he left to film Horizon. He emphasized how he didn’t do the film because he was tired of Yellowstone, and how he’s given the show a lot of his time that he didn’t have to give to try to get things done.
Kevin Costner even offered to spare a week of his downtime to complete his part in Yellowstone, even though legally he didn’t have to. Costner’s reputation for always fulfilling his contractual obligations is well known, which is why he was upset and a little angry with the allegations being thrown at him. Yellowstone 5B will supposedly come out this November, and Horizon: Chapter 1 is in theaters June 28th.
